Chic Corea was a very talented and respected musician and writer in the Jazz World. We lost him on 2-9-21 - May he rest in peace.

I hadn't heard he pased on.
Oddly I lived in LA in the '70s, '80s, & '90s, and I like to say that I saw everyone who was anyone in Jazz, But sadly I guess I lied. I never saw Chic Corea

It's Chick. One of my favorites from the jazz fusion era. My favorite album of his is My Spanish Heart. I also loved his duet recordings with another favorite, vibraphonist Gary Burton. Here is a NPR tin desk concert featuring them:

I was sad to see that. Saw him play with Al DeMiola, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White at The Silver Dollar in East Lansing, Mi. around 1975 or so. More talent on stage than I could imagine, tickets were four or five bucks in a smallish bar, quite a deal.
The music was pretty far over my head but there was no mistaking the musicianship on display.
RIP Chick.

Saw Chic last in November 2019 playing with the banjo virtuoso Bella Fleck at a small venue in my town north of Boston. Truly one of the greatest talents we’ve had on piano. He used to be known as Chic from Chelsea (MA) as he was born and raised there. A genius from humble origins.

I was lucky enough to see him on a number of occasions. One that stands out for me was when he and Herbie Hancock played piano duets. An amazing, talented artist who mastered many genre.

If you like their work together, and you’re not familiar with it, check out the album “Like Minds.” It’s a Gary Burton recording from ‘98 or ‘99 and the group is Burton, Corea, master drummer Roy Haynes, Pat Metheny, and Dave Holland.

Thanks. I do have that album - I'll have to give it another listen.
