Thought some of you might like to see this truck being restored at Coker Tire in Chattanooga TN.
wow- as politically incorrect as you can get.
do people still know who Ma Rainey really was, and what she did, or why we should put her on the list of some of the greatest musicians of the age?

Well I know, and I haven’t any formal edumacation in these matters. I know simply cuz she’s waaaaay FAMOUS !
Whoever does not know her has been living under a rock.
Thank you for the pix :-)
Good photos, Great old truck, a fragment of much greater fame and accomplishments.
Thanks for the kind comments. I know, not PC, but with the movie out there now seemed the time to post these. FWIW, if you are in the Chattanooga area, Honest Charlie/Coker Tire has a great car museum.

No, a notable piece of Black American and musical history that should be preserved.

A film version of August Wilson’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” is available on Netflix. I can’t speak to its accuracy but it should provide some insights into the woman and her place in history.

Nice shots of the old truck.
Nice shots of the truck. Times they are a changing.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. These shots were taken several years ago--long before the movie and I had not heard of Ma Rainey at that time.

I think the Netflix movie made a lot of people aware of her.

The movie is based on August Wilson’s play of the same name. It’s part of “The Pittsburgh Cycle”, a series of 10 plays about the African-American experience in a Pittsburgh neighborhood in the 20th century except for “Ma Rainey...” which takes place in Chicago.
