Last year, I reluctantly paid $32.39 for Quicken for a year because my 2014 version stopped working. Because of questionable activity, my credit card bank canceled my account and is issuing a new card - right at the time that Quicken was due to renew. I gave Quicken a new card number, and I thought that was the end of it. I guess not.

I received an email from them saying that the charge of $51.99 a year didn't go through, so my online access would be terminated. Two things: jumping from $32 to $52 in one year is a big increase; if all I'm losing is online access (and updates), why bother paying? I began using Quicken thirty years ago, and I never had online access. Do any of you use Quicken without paying?

Ummm, Quicken 2007.....
Meets my needs. Standalone.
(I wonder if I'll be able to install it on a Win 10 box when the time comes.)

My free Quicken 2007 still works well on Windows 10.

My Quicken is pretty ancient. When I updated to Win10, it loaded like a charm. I've never paid any subscription. I don't WANT to use the online thing. I also use QuickBooks, and won't do it online either. I don't want my info running around in cyberspace!

Why is this posted here? I thought we discuss photography not financial record keeping.

I put my old 2007 version on a new PC, no problem, but I discovered that its backup restore doesn’t work so,I had to set up knew accounts, no problem there. Now I just copy all the Quicken directory to a thumb drive for my backup whenever I add new data at reconcile time so I can keep a historic record. Don’t do anything online with it. Just use it to reconcile bank accounts.

A long, long, long, time ago I received a stand alone version from my brother as a Christmas gift. I use to balance my checking account with it. Haven't used it in about five years or better & never used it online or linked my account # to it. Only you can decide if the price is worth it to you. Was your card charged? Some transactions I take a screen shot & it only shows 4 of the cc card numbers. Hope it works out for you.

I Started with Quicken home and business in 2005 and then upgraded to 2007. Been on that ever since. Completely meets my needs.
Hate most software subscription business models. Just more money for them and minimal-to-zero benefit. Often it's a negative benefit. Menus are reshuffled causing wasted time finding features that remain the same. Most software companies know their product functionality reached full zenith years ago. For some software, There's no need to update at all. New features don't directly equate to higher productivity. Often, the reverse happens with bugs, broken drivers, reshuffled menus, and removed features (at times).
A permanent software license used to be the norm. Upgrading software made more sense when it occurred every 2 to 3 years instead of every 12 months like today. Renting yearly software licenses is much more lucrative and how they keep their stock price growing. But When the rental price is too high, it becomes a scam. Adobe, Intuit, MS, Autodesk, et.al, knew that to grow their stock, they needed higher and consistent yearly cash flow. So they killed the permanent license model on flagship versions and switched to 12 month forced renewal. The software is 90%+- the same in all cases. But, if the monthly/yearly rental price is low enough, and new features are received well, then renting yearly software works for many users. Not worth it to me. Too much leverage for software vendors when your software license expires every 12 months. Plus, I personally hate navigating new menus that arbitrarily change the location of basic functions for no reason other than to appear new. It wastes my time.
Intuit's price increase to rent you Quicken jumped 63% in one year. Outrageous.
I am sticking with my permanent 2007 license. Have you tried installing your Quicken version on another PC with the original CDs? I had to do that about 6 years ago and it worked fine, other than a nagging "registration" prompt, which I skip. Once passed that, fully functional. Fully legal too.

I am using Quicken 2019 without renewing the subscription. All that I am missing is the updates and online access. Use "F11" key while in an account to go to "full screen" and eliminate the annoying side panel with the renewal request. You will still see a small banner across the top of the screen to "remind" you to renew your membership.

I have found that the annual "updates" do not come close to being worth the amount charged. The online access was always getting out of synch and required constant resetting so I ditched the "membership" aspect.

I also use it only to track & reconcile accounts and print some reports.
Interesting about the backup anomaly, I wonder if that is because of Win 10?
I've installed it on various Windows OS since 2007, all have worked, except for a few inherent program quirks that have always been there. I currently have it on a desktop and laptop, reloading (restoring) the save from the desktop (master).

Yes, they always add (gee -whizzbang) stuff I'd never use. Waste of money for me to upgrade.

If Quicken 2007 ever quits on me, I'll build something in Excel before I'll pay for a subscription....

Yeh, it’s when I went from 7 to 10. Got error message related to missing files. So I switched to copying the Quicken directory to a USB.
