After entering a previous version of this in my photo clubs competition in the Altered Reality category which it did okay. However the judge thought there was too much detail in the background distracting from the subject. So what did I do - put more distracting elements in it - LOL.
The purpose, of course, is meant to tell a story of sorts so I made it a little more menacing and moody. See original post in the subject string.
Of course comments are always welcome.

All judges have to look, see, and find something to criticize, sigh.
That's what judges do. I do like this "take" on your subject, however
for me, I like your original posting much better as it is much less contrived.
But then, this just my opinion. I would be happy with either picture.

Your correct about judging. She thought the originals background was too sharp and therefore took her eye away from the subject.
Cheers
Our camera club works with a different critiquer each month instead of "judges". We find this is less threatening and more members submit and we all learn something from each image. I like your creative idea for altered reality with this image. The relationship between the background size/color and the dancer does suggest competition for attention, but that may be what you want to portray. I like your vertical orientation. Bev
