Dear custodian....Do you think they are warning each other OR are they saying, "Get ready! More grub is on the way!!!"

dear omar...What do the jungle animals do today when they hear Tarzan yell like he did back in the 1940 movies I used to go to as a small boy. It sure made the elephants come running back then. Perhaps it was just a Hollywood trick to get our 9 cents on Saturday afternoons. Thank you for your comment.

Tarzan movies were shot in Louisiana...you can hear the Pileated Woodpeckers in the movie...which aren't in Africa...

Several years ago I was taking photos of a bunch of geese on a small lake, I heard a lot of honking in the sky and watched as all of the geese on the lake moved to one side. The one by one each of the geese in the air came in and landed on the open side. I continued slowly around the lake taking shots. Some of the geese flew off. About 45 minutes later I heard more honking and the scene was repeated. This time I was ready and got some really good shots of the geese coming in. I will try to find thes a nd post them.

We've had a Cooper's hawk visit our backyard on numerous occasions, and usually all the birds and critters scatter in time. A couple days ago, though, a young squirrel did not get the email. He froze on the tree trunk just below the hawk for a tense five minutes, but was saved when two crows started to harass the hawk, which then flew away.

Great Picture there Tim.
The last time a hawk flew over my feeders, he landed on telephone lines about 50 feet away where he could get a good run at the birds. While waiting for some action, 2 crows flew though my yard right at the hawk, squawking like mad. The hawk took off, giant wings flapping, with the 2 crows in hot pursuit. They chased him until out of sight.

I often have seen crows harassing hawks high in the sky, with the hawk floating around in circles with the crows, sometimes a bunch of them, apparently driving him nuts. I don't think crows like hawks much...

Dear ssiretire...If I understand you correctly, your observations in the past tell you that the geese in overhead flight communicate with the geese resting on the lake and in essence tell them to move over and make way for us to come in and land in the opening you create? Sounds reasonable to me. Thank you for sharing.
