This is the very first blossom on a small Christmas Cactus that I received as a gift just over two years ago when I was hospitalized. It has endured with poor lighting and general neglect. This year it decided to bless me with a few blossoms. I think it is a very forgiving little plant and I plan to give it more attention in the future!

Beautiful blossom. We were gifted with one of these recently and care for it religiously. No blossoms yet, but we are hoping.

Cwilson, my wife has one of these cactus'. A friend told her it was a Thanksgiving Cactus. The first one she had was my mothers that she had for over 20 years. She called it a Christmas Cactus????

"They" say to have it in an area with a South window light. We have ours in a South window and have many "buds" and a few flowers, but the cold and lack of sunshine, they are bundled up and not showing.

I put my two outside in protected area and no direct hot sun and they seem to thrive. Take them in before first frost. Adjust according to your weather and I think you will have blooms galore. Water as top of soil dries. They just seem to love being in outdoor temps and humidity.

Great capture and rendering. I am not a horticulturalist, so I won't try to tell you how to place/grow your Christmas Cactus. Glad it is blooming for you. Please stay safe and keep on sharing.

You're right. The Christmas Cactus is extremely hardy and puts up with all sorts of neglect. I have had one for about 20 years. Once I finally thought it had had it and was ready for the garbage. But my neighbor rescued it and pampered it for a few weeks, then gave it back to me to enjoy again.

Thank you! I think they bloom when they are good and ready.

I, too, have heard them named for various holidays. I grew up calling them Christmas Cactus. My problem is three house cats that eat plants. I don’t have a window with good light that is “safe”.

Outside is a good idea. Unfortunately I’m not sure I can find a spot where it would be safe without baking. My front porch faces South but in the afternoons it is in bright sun.
