Great story. You were so lucky; I was not close to either grandmother & missed that. Not all lost though; had a family friend that kinda filled that role. Good memories. I hope that young people nowadays will avail themselves of their grandparents wisdom.

I love this story and photo. Thanks for sharing. Some of it reminds me of my youth. Only I had a powerful BB gun instead of a .22 that went with me and my dog all over the rural community I grew up in. I saved and saved for the $11.11 I need to buy that BB gun from Sears (including tax and shipping.) This was right around that same time in the mid 60s. Your story of your great grandmother is amazing. We should all be so fortunate.

I posted the scan of the front and the back of the photo. Just FYI!

This photo was, and still is one that will always bring back "Wonderful Memories" in my life.

This was taken by me in Dec. of 1966. I was 13 yrs. old then, and my "Great Grandmother Mae McGregor" was

96 yrs. old at time. She lived her last years with my family. She passed away my Senior year in HS. She was 99

yrs. old at the time. And she passed away in excellent health. She made the family dinner that night (She loved

to do this) and I went to watch a HS basketball game. My mother told me when I got home...that she just sat

down in her favorite chair, began to read her stories, (She Loved Romance Stories) closed her beautiful eyes,...

and went in complete peace.

She had lived on her farm of 215 acres before she came to live with us when she was 92. At that time she lived

alone, and still had...84 chickens, 4 cows, one horse, (Old)... 6 pigs...and a dog.

When I was a young boy, mother would take me to her farm where I would gladly spend a week at a time.

I was 10 yrs. old then.

I would stay there with "My Dog...and my 22 cal. Rifle". (Then, 22 shells were $.25 cents for 50 rounds)

I would spend each day helping her with the milking of the cows and feeding the other animals.

When my farm chores were done, I would spend the rest of my time in the woods with my 22 Riffle and my dog.

I loved the woods, and all the wonders that it held. I learned a lot at that old farm!

I had to be in the farm house, or be "Home" before dark. Grandma always called me "Daniel Boone", because I

loved the woods so much. I loved it when she called me that, because the "Daniel Boone Show" was big back

then.

When it came to be Sunday, and a neighbor would stop to pick us up for Church, Grandma would "HOLLER AT

ME"...and Yell..."Boone" (People still call me that today)...."It's TIME FOR CHURCH" !!!

(She tagged me with "Boone"...and it stuck)

If she were alive today, she would be 151 yrs. old.

As you can see by her face in the photo..."She wasn't a big fan of my camera".

The end of this short story is:

I still have this photo laying on top of my computer, and look at it a few times a week.

I will always miss her... but the memories, and the values I have of those days...will live in me forever.

I hope my children,... will have something like this to remember,...when they get to my age!!!

So...now you know where I got the name..."BOONE"...and who "Gave it to me".

(I'm just sure you were dying to know. LOL )

Thanks for reading about "MY Most Loved Photo"!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Boone.
I posted the scan of the front and the back of the... (show quote)

That's truly heart warming... good photo too for a 13 year old with 1966 equipment, especially
without sunlight.

Thanks for posting.

Unfortunately, I came from a divorced home (age 6), so I never got to see my Grammas either one. Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories. Hang onto that picture and store it in a place that's protected from light. You have the scanned image.

Fortunately, when my family passed one by one, I did inherit the picture albums so at least I can look at the pictures and wonder what it would have been like to visit my senior folks and learn and receive love from them

Bless you for sharing, Alan

Funny, I mowed lawns for my .22. It was $23 back then when you could order a gun by mail.

$11.11 was a lot of money back then too. Thanks for the nice words!

Thanks,

I remember those days. I bought my Marlin.22 bolt action via the mail. It arrived with no serial number. Amazing.
