I've heard people refer to this program in several posts but never investigated. I shoot a lot of indoor girl's gymnastics. Some of you may know, terrible conditions, light is usually inadequate, a real challenge. So I shoot with my faster lenses if possible, Canon 50mm 1.4 or 85mm 1.8, and if I need the reach, an 18-135mm zoom. I push the shutter speed as high as possible and of course the ISO's are quite high. The pictures are OK but if you want to crop significantly or enlarge, the noise becomes objectionable.
I just downloaded a free trial of TOPAZ AI and playing around with some images. It is pretty amazing. Any comments or insights on using it would be appreciated.
Do you apply it to the RAW image or do it later in the process? I tried it on JPG's that were already processed and it worked well.
BTW it's on sale now for a few days for 60 bucks.

There is a Topaz tutorial for their products. I use Topaz DeNoise and Sharpen AI for bird pictures at very high ISO and they are very helpful. If shooting in raw, do not crop, just adjust tone and then use your Topaz product.

Topaz DeNoise is incredible!! I shoot a lot of sports in gyms and under lights. Typically I shoot 1/1000 f3.5 and 6400 ISO. I cull in Photo Mechanic then process In Lightroom Classic, when I get something awesome I run thru DeNoise with great results.

Yeah, I only have it a few hours and it looks awesome. For years I have suffered with excess noise. It's going to make a big improvement in my shots.

I am a huge fan of Topaz Labs AI products. If I had to pick just three of their products they would be Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Adjust AI. With these three programs, I can do about 90% of what I routinely want to accomplish. They offer eight products in all. The Topaz Products FAQs below should answer any question about all of the eight products they offer including computer requirements. These eight Topaz Products come with a free trial and once purchased they have one year of free updates for each program. These Topaz Products AI programs are very powerful and a constantly being upgraded and updated. I use the default settings and I am seldom disappointed. Topaz products also automatically add a tag (prefix/suffix) to your file for nondestructive editing. Or, you may add your own prefix or suffix.

After you start to feel comfortable using their products then give the following a try:
After loading a file select all of the "Full Auto" selections, run "Update", then . . select File, Preferences, Reset, and Close.
This allows the program to select the best/fastest settings for your computer.
Now select "Save Image" as you desire for the type of file, location, etc.

Another hint. Close all programs not in use as this will allow your computer to perform at its best.
After doing this, open "Task Manager" select "Performance" and watch the graphs as the program processes the file to see if you have enough Memory/CPU etc.
Also: DO NOT select "Auto-Update Preview"!! It may be handy for making small changes but it will REALLY ADD to your processing times!

Why do you say don't crop? I crop (if I plan on cropping the picture) figuring it has a smaller file. T/F ?

I have done a lot of birding in the past, like your shooting birding often requires higher ISO's to be able to stop movement of birds in flight. Topaz was recently on sale so I bought a bundle and ended up getting DeNoise, Adjust, Gigapixel, and Sharpen. I have seen many images which have been cleaned up with DeNoise and known many photographers who use the software so I knew it was a good program, the one that surprised me was GigaPixel, it will take a very small image and make it big and it does a pretty good job of it. I have several images of BIF that I never thought I would be able to print but GigaPixel has changed that.

I have nearly every plugin that Topaz has in its Arsenal. I use Denoise AI and Sharpen AI the most, but also use Gigabit AI on photos that I’m going to print. Denoise AI has some sharpening abilities in its software and is good when the photo has a lot of noise, where Sharpen AI is more dedicated to correcting mistakes from too slow shutter speed or movement of operator when pressing the shutter. Sharpen AI also has some Denoise abilities in its plugin. Both great plugins to have in your arsenal.

Some have said that they can do all the different magics with PShop, perhaps true, perhaps a justification for the monthly fee. I have used Topaz plugins for 15 {?} years, starting with one, which one? They have diversified and improved. My goal was to take photos and improve on them easily, PS had a tall learning curve... not my goal.

I like the idea of the presets, and sliders, make life easy and they are very effective. The most useful Topaz Webinar advice was to go right on a slider then back off to "looks good" the back off a tad more to prevent an over-processed look.

Historically upgrades have been free. Some of my older Topaz were grandfather in for Ai upgrades. Certainly investing in Topaz Plugins is a better use of money than $150+/year for PS. Affinity photo editing program is another good investment in that it is a great program {$50}and updates are free.

Enjoy your photography and make it easy and a pleasure, let the software do the hard work.
