I would love to get a picture of a pileated woodpecker but if they're in our area they stay well hidden. I got one several years ago in northern Illinois but at a distance with only a 200mm lens.
Cool birds. We had one that came and hit the same tree in our year practically every morning for a year. So loud that the sound would wake you from a sound sleep. He hasn't been around lately... Must have found a happier hunting ground.

We have pileated woodpeckers year-round here in KY, but they seldom come to the feeders. Hear them drumming frequently, and saw one (a female) yesterday down from our house out at the edge of the woods.
