Our daughter and son in law have just bought a new (to them) house. They came across this affixed to the wall. The upright things on each shelf are moveable and lead me to guess bookshelf but with the “shelves” having the space in their middles I’m questioning that. In case it is important in the identification the previous owners were both attorneys.
Any ideas?

I think book shelf is still a good guess. How deep is the recess?

Sure would be hard on books, long term. If it is near an entrance, or in Master Bedroom, Shoe /boot rack? Just guessing.

Reminds me of a DVD shelf stand we have. The vertical pieces keep things from falling over.

It’s screwed onto the wall and only about 20” wide.

Does the door close on the mystery device, or is it for a room to the right?

That door you see is opening into the room; it does not close over the shelves

Just google “Atlantic element media storage rack”.

Apologies for violating uhh tradition of wildly guessing. I cheated with google.
But replies from Hogsters who never read past the first post before guessing could still carry this thread for several more pages .....

Yes, media or books. As attorneys, they may have had work-related journals and such. I repurposed a wood stand-alone rack to hold towels

My daughter is making it her office. No idea what it was previously used for. It is off the entry foyer on one side and the kitchen on the end. It has a fireplace. There is a room on the other side of the foyer with no door also with a fireplace. There is in addition a “keeping room” on the other side of the kitchen. I would guess that the open room would have been a formal living room and the now office was a den or family room. That might make DVD shelf plausible.

Given that it’s actually a media rack, consider that this built-in stationary monster and its former contents has been replaced by a smart phone !
