And watching Khatia Buniatishvili play is a treat.
Another odd fact about Rachy, was that he was married to his first cousin { with special permission from the Tsar }.....and it was on his honeymoon, that he completed his {arguably} most famous work....the Second Piano Concerto.
Mark...thanks for providing a beautiful way to start the day!

Our orchestra recently played that piece. It is beautiful. Happily, the concert was live-streamed. As a subscriber, I mess hearing concerts in person.
The Florida Orchestra resumed performances last autumn - shorter programs, no intermission and only 25% capacity in the hall. While only certain performances are live-streamed, most are later available on their website recorded.
Thank you Mark for the spiritual uplift and a reminder of beautiful and famous music.
Visual arts - and good photography could be a part of - have a spiritual connection to music, too.
Hearing this rhapsody in many concert halls for years, your recommendation gave me the first opportunity to see the keyboard - so I can appreciate the difficulty of the piano work. Rachmaninoff is probably the favorite composer of Anna Fedorova?
Now back to the rhapsody: How about Johannes Brahms's "Alto Rhapsody" with Brigitte Fasbaender?
I think you will like that one, too?
Cheers!

Paul,
I have 25,000 files of classical on one of my hard drives. Another 35,000 jazz and some pop. I never lack for music.
Thanks,
Mark
Anna Fedorova is great in this. The guy mic'ing and mixing the concert was not so great. It's thin and muddy.
If you've never seen excerpts from this Symphonic Live Yes concert, check it out. Progressive rock with a classical bent...

Beautiful music. I remember playing that piece in high school over 55 years ago! RFB
