Anyone from UHH planning to be in Albuquerque to participate in the most photographed event in the world -- the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta? It runs from Saturday, October 6 through Sunday, October 14. There are almost 600 balloons registered for the event, with mass ascensions, and balloon glows, and fireworks displays on the schedule. Opportunities will abound to get stunning photographs. If you're going, post your pics after it's over. Would love to see what you all come away with!
I wish I could. Maybe next year... :(
I'd love to see your pics, though!
I'm here now and will be out there on the field at the crack of dawn (if my kids cooperate)! I was actually going to post a question about suggestions for shooting this week but never did. I hope that doesn't come back to bite me as this is not my style of photography. But I have to learn at some point. Wish me luck!

If you get a chance, look at:
http://www.fredparker.com/ultexp1.htmI would guess you'll be shooting at EV 4-6, so go down the page to the large chart near the bottom.
Here at 7:00 am on sat , mass accession has been cancelled this morning due to winds aloft. :(
No balloons this morning but they did have these really cool Star Wars characters around. Almost made up for cancelled ballons. Oh and got a lot of equipment envy.

Thanks Mogul that is a very good article to help understand settings and the mechanics involved.

The balloons went up this morning (Monday) after an hour and a half delay. The winds on the field were only 2 MPH; but about 200+ feet up, there were winds in excess of 20 MPH. If winds exceed 11.5 MPH, the officials won't allow balloons to launch. Once the sun came up the thermals quieted down enough to launch. Hope everyone who traveled to Albuquerque is enjoying themselves! Be sure to post your pics.
