Frozen Star Trails at Cathedral Rock in Sedona

I had this shot(s) planned for many months and had some high hopes and once I got there last February... I talked to some of the local photogs and was told it would be boring  as there was no foliage but still I carried on. I found "the" spot and got everything set up. What a gorgeous site, foliage or not. Set the cameras intervalometer and curled up in my blankie in a hollow in a tree.

Around 4 am I got up to check on the frost situation and discovered my camera had frozen  even with several layers of camera blankies. <sigh> Should have brought the hand warmer pouches. Anyway, here is the result from about 3.5 hours worth of shots sandwiched. Using a Canon 30D and 24-105 f4L. Approx 200 exposures from 1/4 to 60 seconds at f4 and PP in Lightroom and StarTrails. Not bad for a first attempt.

Thanks, I was actually stunned by their response. No such thing as a bad scene, just bad attitudes.

Beautiful! I, too, like #1 ... though I might like #3 even better -- if the darker sky was combined with the lightened foreground. Beautiful, both of them, though.

Those naysayers are just jealous, that's all.

Great shot, greater determination, well done!
