Nikon D750 Mirror Lockup Err Issue

Recently I purchase a used Nikon D750 in excellent condition however I discovered that occasionally taking a shot the mirror will lock in the up position and the display panel will show "Err". If I then depress the shutter button the mirror will drop back down and the camera works fine until the lockup happens again sometime later. In my research I see that this is a well documented problem by D750 owners however I have not read that there is a fix and I am unable to get Nikon Support to even address the issue or whether they ever provided a fix. Just putting this out there to see if any UHHers can add any more information on the issue.

Help is on the way - maybe.

This hasn't happened to me, but it has happened to others.

"Recently I purchase a used Nikon D750..." leftj I would return it to the seller and ask for a refund... especially if it was listed as in "excellent condition" I am aware that mpb; B&H; Roberts; KEH; and Adorama all allow a defective item to be refunded within a limited time period. However if you purchased from a private owner? You may have to eat the loss... There are compelling reason why I and a myriad of other UHH members purchase from the aforementioned vendors...

That said there is hope... I purchased a Tokina lens from mpb which would do exactly as you have experience.... the mirror would lockup after the shutter fired on my D700. While it worked on my D3 and D3x that those were not the bodies I purchased for. mpb was truly outstanding and refunded my purchase price and even provided a shipping label. Kudos to mpb! Thus try another lens with the beast... fingers crossed...

food for thought: The Nikon D750 is one of the most "challenged" cameras Nikon has ever released... This FX body is currently at firmware version 1.15. There have been way too many firmware "fixes" for me to feel comfortable with that body. However it is extremely popular... Go figure...

Hope this helps leftj

Yeah " you need to have it serviced" doesn't cut it. Nikon just needs to tell me what is causing the problem and if they can fix it and what the charge will be. i don't mind paying to fix a problem on an otherwise great camera but cryptic responses to the issue are rediculous.

So I guess you would never purchase anything advertised on UHH.

I bought a used lens with a common problem focus engine issue. After lots of research I decided to fix it. The guy who fixed it didn’t use the original part and this was the right Decision.
I had to learn that Nikon had to much leftover of this part and to save money they used that part with the knowledge that this wasn’t the 100% right one.
Other companies (car)do the same and I got told that if there isn’t enough complaint than there will be no recall....

I have a D750 and for years I never saw the problem. Then I discovered the same issue but it would only happen with one particular shutter speed and F Stop. I had to turn off the camera and change the settings. However, I found it was still under warranty for the problem and had Nikon fix it for free. I believe Nikon no longer fixes it for free but I could be wrong. I would check into it. I haven't had the problem since but it was a known problem with the D750. Nikon did put a out list of serial numbers which have a potential problem.

I'm not trying to defend the seller, but it is possible the seller never saw the problem. It only happened to me on one occasion and I had used the camera for 2-3 years before it happened to me even once.

It happens on mine at least once a day. The mirror will stay in the up position and when I press the shutter button again it returns to the down position and following that works flawlessly until the next time it occurs. I certainly don't expect Nikon to fix the problem on a 7 year old camera free but I would at least like for them to acknowledge the issue and whether they can fix it. I don't mind paying for the repair.

Has happened to me a couple times, I just shut it off, it flipped down and was fine after turning back on...only twice, each time was with a Nikon 1.7 converter attached with a Nikon 70-200 ƒ2.8. Other than that, never happened.

if only you had a mirrorless camera...you would not have this issue and in addition would immediately be both a better photographer and a better human being...

Actually I have two Fuji mirror-less cameras which I love. However I love vintage cameras as well. I have a couple of DSLRs and 10+ film cameras.

I would think if you contact the repair center in NY (if thats the closest one to you) they will fix it. I think they still give estimates in advance but they know of the issue. It was a big problem on the release of the D750 and well known. I guess it effects each camera differently. I know with mine it was so rare I almost didnt fix it but since it was free through I think 2019 to fix, I did it in case I decide to sell mine. Haven't had the problem since the repair.

It's for sure a pain the first time you see it.

The only real fix for this is to replace the shutter. Unfortunately, like many other Nikon products, it will need to be replaced with another Nikon D500 shutter that will also go bad. Nikon has a long history of using known, defective components in their cameras. This increases their repair business and can't really do any harm to their sale. They're through the floor.

You failed reading comprehension. The problem is not with the shutter. It’s with the mirror. The camers is not a D500 it’s a D750. Way to go slick.
