B&W/IR: Looking out my sister's kitchen window. These things cover a good part of the county. I think they're awesome and beautiful! I figured out they are a couple hundred feet tall and spin about 75mph. About 500 in the area.

And the low frequency hum causing people to leave the area or think they are going crazy.

I've read that about them. You know, you tell yourself it isn't spinning so fast, but if you time one of the tips to make a complete circuit and then compute the distance traveled, it is fast You know, whenever there is technology versus wildlife, the technology usually wins. I think it is a bad practice. We should be making accommodations for the wildlife as they do in other countries.

It's called "evolution". They'll have to adapt and learn how to fly around them.

That's not quite right...evolution takes a long time, selective survival when an area slowly changes offers enough time for the living things in that area to evolve (which basically means those that survive and reproduce will likely have offspring with similar traits that allow for survival.)

Windmills like these are k*****g many birds because they are necessarily placed in the same paths the birds use to migrate. And when you are told by some anti-nuke i***t that house cats k**l more birds than windmills" to somehow make you feel better, remember that cats k**l finches and robins and other small birds that reproduce in abundance - windmills k**l raptors and cranes and egrets (and bats) - large birds that have much lower reproductive cycles (fewer eggs per clutch, fewer times per year laying eggs). Thus the impact of those deaths are much more deeply felt in the population.

Funny how k*****g eagles is against federal law, unless you're in the "renewable energy" biz and getting hand jobs from the government...

So the "science" sounding witty retort you made is utterly banal.

I agree that they are harmful, ugly, and produce very little usable energy. Your image is nice though, Joe.

You have obviously never been to Palm Springs, Mojave or Livermore California where these "useless" wind farms generate 7.3% of the state's energy production, for a total of 5,973 Megawatts of power. There are 5.535 of these useless towers in use in our state.

I guess you've never heard of the Cambrian Explosion then. Evolution often happens in spurts. Anyway, extinction is a part of life. Probably 99% of all the species that have ever existed are extinct and not because of human involvement.
I admit I was being kind of snarky with my retort. It just seems like you can't win with some people. The anti f****l f**l and anti nuke people claim the earth is rapidly approaching Venus like conditions and then when alternative energy methods are produced, they complain about that.

Great image, Joe. The towers in that setting gave it a sci-fi movie scene look.
