For what I wanted, Costco came through big time. I have about 3 dozen canvas prints in various sizes, with the largest being 16x20, hanging on a photo/travel wall and they are very nicely done. Some are prints from digital, some are scans from negatives and older prints. They too are very nicely done. They are processed in Seattle. What I wanted were canvas prints that told the story of where we'd been in our travels. Don't know about the drug store prints. Try one and see for yourself. Standard 4x6 and 8x10 prints are also very nicely done.

They are discontinuing the photo service at locations. You'll still be able to buy online as before and have the end product shipped to you from their processing center in Seattle.

I use Costco fo all of my 20x30 posterboard prints. I am satisfied with the results. It is my opinion that many photographers have unrealistic expectations from their work. Some are never really satisfied and some are too easily satisfied.
The Utah mountain landscapes that I have recently had printed at Costco have been excellent in my opinion.

So which printers/papers do you choose for the costco profile now that it is not at the warehouse? Using the wrong profile can be worse than none at all.

Isn't Costco discontinuing their printing service?

Just the in-store printing. Can still print thru internet.

It is all a moot point as Costco is stopping its in-store printing service. I've read here that they will continue to do prints and mail them to you, when I checked their printing services there was no mention of this. When I printed with Costco I let them "autocorrect" for me and my photos were always impeccable! I'm going to miss their photo service.

We will see if they will still do their own processing in a central lab. I suspect they will just outlab it to one of the few remaining wholesale labs on the east coast, a big one out of Maryland I believe. Possibly one out of s.carolina, fuji, but I believe they closed that. Shame to throw the business away with such a good reputation but they know the numbers and they must be able to earn more in the space that once occupied the lab. It's a numbers game(no waste to deal with either).

For some reason labs don't want to tell us what equipiment they use. I asked Bay Photo several times what they used for their fine art prints, and all they would say was that they used Epson or Canon printers, would not tell any models. And they offer only one generic profile that is supposed to be used to proof all. Hard to see how that is possible.

In comparing my prints with a fellow shopper, his color saturation, range, etc were much better. All things were equal, but he said his camera had been ‘calibrated’ to the store’s printer.

Costgo gave me some guidance, but it was too complicated foe me.

I’d be interested in others experience with printer ‘calibration’, especially how to accomplish it for Costgo’s printer.

It is my understanding that Costco will be closing all of its in store photo departments in February. I could never get calibrated with them either but their prints were far superior to the other places you mentioned.
