Assuming this is an error message, some say it is not, I do not know. But if it is, try resetting camera to factory defaults or taking out battery until any power in camera disappears. Sometimes data can get stuck or corrupted in electronic devices and be a devil to correct. Had a VCR years ago that would not work because of something similar, finally I though maybe programming it would work where manual would not, that cleared up whatever was wrong.

Seems astonishing up until your post no one has suggested a factory reset or removing the battery? In some cases issues like the OP has outlined are very easily resolved in seconds!

No need for either, the camera is functioning as it should.

How did you rectify the issue?

Not sure how many time this needs to be said. This is not an error or issue. It is normal behavior for Nikon DSLRs. Every Nikon I have had shows this. Here is a link from Nikon.

There is/was no issue.
Page 5 Item 9 shows the number of exposures remaining 1.25k in this illustration. This shows when the camera is off.

Page 105 Same position as Item 9 r59 shows, on a half-press of the shutter release, the number of images that can be stored in the memory.

It's in the manual. Everyone should have one.

It has been well document that it displays the number of shots left before the buffer fills. No assumptions, it is the same for Nikon DSLR and Mirrorless cameras.

You know what they say when you assume.

AND I just discovered something....I have a nikon 50mm "D" lens that wouldn't work....always said error....BUT I just read that you can put it in M mode and.........you got it.....it works!!!!! Ya know, they made film lenses like tanks......and they have stood the test of time....glad I have a few to go w/ my 'other' lenses....

I didn’t think about that. I have a D3400 and knew I cannot auto focus with my D lenses so I never tried. But good to know......

Accept there was no issue, just a misunderstanding of what R-11 indicated.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
