This may be off topic a little but I say again and again and again quit running around trying the latest and the greatest. I have been capturing images on film and digital since 1954 and I still use my 1947 Speed Graphic with a 120 roll fim adapter along with my Canon T5i. Learn to use the lens you have to its' Max is my advice

This is a great post and very interesting from some of our admired image makers. In process of
building a Fuji kit started with great deal B&H XT-3 lens with it 16-80 F4. And another F4 lens purchased.
The Fuji has 10 bit and is all around great specs. The built in film looks. For the last few years the Sony a7-a7s II these low light cameras great video. Sony in the beginning was making F4 lens then faster lens for pricing access. The Sony 55mm being a great lens very expensive. Now testing the reality of a Fuji with F4 with the camera at higher ISO's. Looking for a compromise. 1.4 lens tend to be very highly priced. Bought some 3rd party lens price busters from Meike, 7artisans. Viltrox 1.4,1.8 etc. Send back one. Liked 7artisans 23mm.
The natural look of the Fuji 16-80 F4 at higher ISO's looks very pleasing.
Stay well. Stay safe

Long bearded adage, but what if this so-called “lens you have” is a 58mm f/1.1 ? What if such a pale pachyderm has no advantages ... then what ?!? It’s clunky, has terrible DoF, boring backgrounds, corner problems until at least f/4.5, but just happens to be that fabled “lens you have”. Life can so unkind :-(

Yes you are right. Having the Sony a7s II and a lens like the 55mm 1.8 is a great rig.
One thing I think you know is that Sony and some of the brands didn't have 10 bit sensor's.
The specs on the Fuji are amazing. I have a Sony PXW-X70 camcorder for 6 years. Have shot
70 videos with it. Run and gun style. The lens is a 2.8 quality lens. 10 bit. 4K which I dont use
often. It is very forgiving.Fuji makes great lens. A third party 16mm might be a $200 theirs
would be about $1000. Amazingly Rokinon South Korea cine and still lens got known.
I have a DS cine 24mm, 50mm and couldn't believe how good they are. And cheap.
Well made. I have used the cine lens on stills. love the aperture range on the lens.
The compromise is very little. As you may know cine lens are huge amounts of cash.
Good luck. Stay safe.

Oh yes, I’m aware of cine $$. Most stills-photo-hobby types think that a $700 Metabones adapter is hugely expensive. Acoarst, as a cine accessory, a $700 SpeedBooster is very reasonably priced.

And $700 is way too much to spend on fitting $1000 lens to a $1000 camera. But $700 to fit a $3500 lens to a $12000 camera doesn’t raise so many eyebrows.

When a Fuji hobbyist bemoans the price of Metabones, they just refuse to listen when told that they have shopped in the wrong marketplace. Fujiland is not Arriland ... very different economies.
