Two years ago I bought Photoshop for windows and now I have a new iMac. What if anything can I do to update this so I can use it on my new computer?
Photoshop is system specific. If you have Photoshop Elements it usually comes with software for both systems. If you have Photoshop CS then you are probably out of luck here.
When I went from PC window platform to Mac pro desktop intel based --- I had to purchase a complete new suite for that operating system.... Adobe Light Room and Adobe CS5 extended suite... ;=( I run all in 64 bit mode ...
If you were upgrading on windows different story between major upgrades...

If you bought the boxed version, check the disk(s), you may have the Mac version on there and only need to install it.
I use PSE, not the full Photoshop, but the license allows me to have the program on two computers. If this is the same for Photoshop, and you have the program on two computers, you will need to deactivate one and activate the new install on the Mac.
If I am right and the license for PS allows two installations, see if you can download the SAME version as your Windows version, install it on the Mac, and I think the same activation code (from the box of the original disks) can be used.
As to updating, you should be able to purchase the newest Mac version as owner of a previous version of PS.

When I upgraded to Photoshop 6, I was given a license for two Windows machines and one Mac. I have it installed on one Windows, but I have yet to try to install it on my iMac. I saved the download to a disc, but I think I'll do a fresh download from Adobe and see if it works on the Mac.
I'm certainly not about to buy a new copy. If it doesn't work, I'll switch to Corel PaintShop Pro.

Yeah, that is kind of what I figured, oh well. I do have Elements and it did install the Mac version. Thanks for confirming the bad news.

So, how much is Corel? Do you like it? I have a Printshop I have used forever on Windows and I really miss it. What is a good replacement for this on iMac?

Sorry, it looks like it's just for Windows. Aperture is supposed to be a good program for the Mac.

Good news!
When I got PS6 a few months ago, I got one registration number for Windows and one for Mac. Last night, I downloaded PS6 onto my iMac and used the Mac number to validate it. Works fine.
If you don't have a number for your Mac, contact Adobe. You can probably do a live Chat online. If you don't get the answer you want, try again, their Chat people seem to vary in quality. I've gotten some misinformation from them.
Basically, you bought it, so you should be able to use it.

Re:Aperture--- you can buy it at the App store for $79.
Simple solution call adobe direct and speak to a rep.
Like Jerryc41 said you already have and paid for Adobe will give you a new number or send you one that will work On a Mac.
I don't know why some people are suggesting to switch to another softwear.
You could always install a bootcamp partition on your imac and install windows on that purely for running photoshop. It's relatively easy to switch between windows and mac once installed and probably a cheaper option than buying a new version of photoshop.
Hope this helps.
We have Macs, a year ago I mistakenly got the Windows Photo Shop, bonehead move. Adobe sent me Mac specific cds. I now have PS on this laptop and one of the desktops; Adobe limits it to 2 computers, and you have to promise not to use both at once. We replaced that desktop and I had to contact Adobe to get a new registration number. Not a big deal. With all this uproar, I got the idea Adobe will send new cds for any platform switch. The 2 computer limit stays. I can only imagine Adobe doing this for more or less current versions.

With my download, I can use it on two Windows machines and one Mac. I'd like to know why the 2/1 split.
Seems to me, could be wrong, but when you fire up PS, it uses the Internet to check the registration with Adobe. Maybe you're lucky? Maybe Adobe doesn't like me? That seems a bit evil, how could one use PS without an Internet connection? I don't really know how Adobe enforces this, maybe it's all bluster? I do recall having to deactivate the dead desktop before they'd give me a new number for the new desktop. Whatever that means.
