Can't Bully Me!

In the past, I normally observed male birds fighting each other over food or a mate. it appears that sometimes the female birds hold their own, as shown in this image. The Red Headed Male House Finch appears to be startled and is backing off. Have other bird observers found female birds standing their ground as well?

Yep. Just got some photos of a female hooded Merganser telling an amorous male to "bug off"!

Dear Retired CPO...I have observed the same activity in the dog world as well. We know that mama bears with babies often send Grizzlies running for cover. Thank you for your input.

We have a female house finch that rules our front yard feeder. You only eat when she lets you. We have put up two other feeders, one in the side yard and one in the back so the other birds can get something to eat. 😆

Dear Rev Sami...Thank you for sharing your story of female dominance in the house finch world. I'm sure the other birds appreciate your giving them a chance to eat as well.
