Question for Luminar AI Users:

I’m using Luminar AI as a plug-in to Lightroom.

After sending a photo to AI and editing it there, I have no way to get the photo back to LR. An AI users guide shows Cancel and Apply buttons in the upper right corner of the screen, but mine are missing--no buttons.

Does anyone have any idea why they are missing; and, without the Apply button, how do I send the photo back to LR?

Go into Luminar and uninstall photoshop and lightroom plugins, then reinstall them

John you must update again because the only way to come back to LR is through the button "Apply" in the right above. Normally it sends you to LR with a Tiff extension but you can modify this extension.

There may be differences between the Windows & Mac OS versions. The online manual for Skylum products usually references the Mac version.

Try asking the question on the Skylum forum https://community.skylum.com

Thanks, all. I opened the program as a stand-alone, and the apply button isn’t visible there, either. Apparently it’s the program, not the plug-in.

My apologies-- posted to the wrong question--
Just went through this with Luminar tech--if you are using windows you need to right click on the photo you wish to send to Luminar from LR and go down to export and choose LR with changes--this will take the picture to Luminar and open the program. Doing it this way an APPLY button will appear in the upper left corner. Mac users will always get the 3 colored circles and an apply button by going to the edit column and choosing edit in Luminar--resetting and re-installing will NOT work-- I tried them all! Only Windows 10 requires the work around--

Hitting the APPLY button will send the processed photo back to LR next to the original

Hi John,
I’ve install the mutual plug-ins for Lightroom 6.14/Luminar-4 4.3.0/ Luminar AI 1.0.1/Photoshop Elements 2021. I use Windows 10 / PC. I hope some of this will help you out.
Since using the Luminar programs, I’ve also notice few quirks and differences in file transfer methods from LR-to-LUM-to-LR that concur with your observations about the Apply button.
Sounds like you’ve done some of this….but let’s make sure. Without knowing; I suggest you change some LR setting to recognize the Luminar AI editor.
1. In LR pull down menu: Preference>External Editor tab (find the Additional External Editor section: Change the (pull down) to Additional External Editor to Luminar AI
2. Change the following setting…..(these will get you started):
o File Format: Jpeg
o Color Space: Adobe RGB
o Bit dept: 8 bits
o Resolution: 240
o Check: Stack with Originals
In LR, there seems to be two ways to move files to Luminar4 or AI for editing.
The traditional way (A) will allow you to transfer the photo file WITH LR ADJUSTMENTS. Once Luminar adjustment are made, you will need to EXPORT (icon button) the finished file back to the LR and re-import the file with the Metadata changes. Not a quick workflow…..but it works. Method (B) using the simple “plug-in extra* method that will return the file via APPLY to the LR folder...here's a little more detail on both methods:

a. Pull Menu: Photo>Edit In>Luminar AI….this will give you the format choice of the file you want to edit. However, it’a been my experience on my Windows 10 system that this transfer method WILL NOT trigger the APPLY button…... *Use the Export icon (at the top) and the export dialog box to move the edited files back to the folder. *You’ll must modify the file name (behind the extension) so it will be identifiable in the LR folder. Now you’ll need to Import this new file into the Library Folder.

b. Pull Down Menu: File > Plug-In Extra>Transfer to Luminar AI. The AI program will open, and you should see the APPLY button. A word of caution; this method may not transfer LR adjustments since this is not an export function? Do your edits and use the APPY button to place the file back into Lightroom. Ypu can complete you edits in Lightroom.

I contacted Skylum Luminar--the work around to round trip a photo from LR to Luminar and back is:

Right click on the photo itself in Luminar
Go down to Export
Chose export to Luminar
This will open Luminar and you will find an APPLY button on the top left hand side--
Make your adjustments in Luminar, hit APPLY and the photo will be returned to LR next to the original

Good luck

Start out in Lightroom and THEN right click on the photo itself (not the border) and chose EXPORT AND THEN CHOSE export to Luminar-
it will open in Luminar and their will be an APPLY button in the upper left hand corner of the program--sorry for my causing confusion

Well, be careful, in my version of luminar AI the apply button is in the upper right corner.

If you have a Mac OS you will--but not in Windows 10--
