Nice catch. I also live in the area. We've seen coyotes in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, in the marsh areas along PCH near the power plants and see them regularly hunting in the HB city park. Plenty of fowl for them to eat at the park.

Great find and I'd love to have been there too so thanks for sharing. All of Nature's creatures play an important part in the scheme of things...except for chiggers..!

I live in Galveston, TX. A topic of conversation is the coyote cat catching and how the coyotes should come out on the bad end of the stick. Galveston has a law that says all pets need to be under the control of their owners and on leash if off the owner's property. We have a very transient population as medical students come and go. Many put off having children until they are more established so they get pets. And they don't keep these pets safe. It is easier to blame the coyotes rather than themselves. I appreciate the coyotes. We have a busy port and busy ports have rats. The coyotes do a good job keeping the rat population under control so our coyotes are healthy, too. Fun fact, our coyotes have a tiny bit of red wolf DNA and in my eyes, that makes them even more special.

I love this photo...

Thank you very much forbescat. When I first started reading your message I thought you were going to say that coyotes are a scourge that ate pets and should be wiped from the face of the earth. Humans have invaded their territory, not the other way around. Humans can, as you say, protect their precious pets while the coyotes help control rats, gophers, ground squirrels, and other rapidly reproducing creatures. Same goes for raptors, which I love to watch. Glad you viewed and enjoyed my photo. Stay well and have a great week. jak
