I’ve tried a tablet but it’s a whole new set of muscle movements

The problem is to connect the hand movements with your eyes looking somewhere else. Once you are used to that you have much finer control than with a mouse.

This is the reason I'm interested in a touchscreen.

Artists use tablets all the time. I did not find it took long to get comfortable with a tablet, which also has multiple pressure levels, something I find useful.

One challenge I have is repetitive motion injury in my hand and wrist. When I write with a pen my hand freezes up.

Yeah, using fingers was more of an example than an actual consideration . I have a Wacom tablet myself, but I also just got a touch screen laptop that a stylus works very well on. It would be awesome if I could use either the Wacom or touch screen to edit.

Since a laptops screen orientation is more or less vertical it would be difficult at best to use that with a stylus as an editing tool. The small Wacom tablet is what I would use as a peripheral tool. Small and portable if your traveling.

My thoughts anyway.

With all due respect, I have owned several laptops, and none were vertical. Now a tablet or phone, that is a different story.
