Is it possible to get back the true colors in this photo copied from a slide taken in about 1959. This is my youngest child who will soon be turning 65 years old. I do a little post-processing but don't have the knowledge or program to fix this problem.
I've never tried to put anything in this discussion area and don't see the photo I'm trying to put in, so if this shows up without the photo I'll just say that it has turned orange and I'd sure like to get it back to natural color if possible. Thanks for any help you can give.
yes and no. Like you I don't have the computer expertise to totally correct a faded photo. What I did with some old photos was to convert them in B&W and manulipulate the tones and contrast. This turned them into pretty good B&W photos. I had some old Marshels Photo Oils and colored some of them. I'm sure there are those here that have the ability to correct the faded color in their computers. Good Luck.

Thank you OR pilot. I have made a small black and white photo of it with which I am satisfied, but I'am hoping to restore the color of this photo, enlarge it and give it to my daughter for her birthday. But if I don't get the color restored I will do a black and white print and it will be acceptable.
If you can figure out how to upload the picture I recommend you do so in the post processing forum. Be sure to check “ store original”.
You may have another option if you still have that 1959 slide! Back then many of the slides were done on Kodachrome, which was remarkably resistant to fading. If that slide exists it could be scanned and you could get either a fresh color print or a digital image. On the other hand if the slide was Ektachrome, it probably faded worse than your print did.
Also, if you do some limited processing and can get the picture into a computer....a lot of the software programs have an auto restore feature that does a fairly good job with fading pictures.
Luen, I suggest you put a copy of the photo file, download, in the "Post-Processing" section. "A Faded Challange"
There are many who will jump on the chance to show their expertise.
I would also recommend that in the future you title be something less cryptic than “Help!”
People will be more inclined to read your post and offer assistance if the subject line is more informative.
Photoshop Elements can get you there. It’s about $70 and is easy to learn. Other software can do it too. Although I’ve had a few that weren’t recoverable but you can still get pretty close or go the B&W as others have said.

You need to post a high-resolution scan of the slide checking the 'store original' box.
If you don't have a slide scanner, you'll need to find a local friend who can help.
Check with any local camera clubs.
Many here will be happy to work on the image for you.
Luen, If you don't know how to upload the picture, maybe these instructions will help.
"Directly beneath your post, you should see three options: Reply, Quote Reply, Report Issue.
Click on Reply.
That will bring up a White Box in which to enter text.
The next line gives two options, Send and Preview.
On the next line, click the Choose File Button.
From there you should be able to choose the picture you wish to restore.
Click (or double-click on the file).
That should carry you back to UHH and you should see the name of the photo you entered.
To the right, click on Add Attachment.
The image should appear below that. Click on Update."
I really hope you can upload it because I think somebody on here will be able to help you.
(I also have 60 year old children so I know how precious these old pictures/memories are.)
