I only use zeiss lens wipes. They are pre-moistened with the correct amount and I use them on my lenses and camera bodies. They are cheap and effective.

Other than lens cleaners, liquids are not generally recommended for cleaning photo equipment. See your user manual.

I generally use >99.9% propan-2-ol. (Also known as iso-propanol)
It's miscible with water & most organic liquids and I have access to very high grade stocks with no solid residues.
Unlike acetone etc. it doesn't dissolve common plastics.

As with all such cleaners minimal liquid should be used, just a small drop on a Q-tip.

For the record it is sold as lens cleaner by some brands.

I’ll second that. Get a box of 100 at Walmart for around $5. Wrap them around a cotton swab for tight spaces and corners, or even around a toothpick for even smaller spaces.

Use a microfiber cloth with a cleaner to do the cleaning. I think I ruined (scratched) a lens of my glasses with those Walmart Zeiss lens wipes. They are made out of paper.

Typical rubbing alcohol is only 70% alcohol with the remaining 30% water...Do NOT use this.../On E~Bay or Amazon or at your local pharmacy is medicinal “pure” alcohol. 99% ....or there are wipes sold by Nikon, Zeiss at many camera stores

You probably didn’t brush or blow off any grit that was on the lens before you used the wipe. A microfiber cloth might be ok to use if its the first use of the cloth. Otherwise it may be contaminated with damaging particles from past uses. The lens cleaning wipes are one time use only. As to the paper, paper lens wipes and lens cleaning solutions have been used as long as I can remember. The Zeiss wipes have it all in the little hermetically sealed packet.

I completely destroyed a lens with the paper wipes but have never done any damage to my eyeglasses lens with the microfiber cloth. I admit that I was pressing rather hard with the paper wipes. Microfiber cloth fibers are softer than paper fibers.
