As if the change in temperature and color weren't enough, one only has to look at these two fellows stuffing themselves to know that winter is fast approaching.

Those are precious photos. I hope they find enough to eat and have a mild winter.

Love #2. A rare capture. You don't think of or see a squirrel eating mushrooms very often. Or for the first time for me. Thanks for sharing!

Same for me. I have never seen a squirrel eat a mushroom. In this particular instance, I was hiking alone along a trail above 10,000 ft. I watched him pluck it from the ground and scamper up the tree with it. He consumed the entire thing in about one minute. I wish I was as sure of my mushroom identification as he is!

I also wonder if those that would kill a human don't even faze the wildlife. It's not like they can look them up in an edible wild plants manual!

Maybe there are some mycologists among the UHH members who could enlighten us.

We, too, have three of them. They were strays, and a couple, at least, were in dire straits. We've had them now for over 10 years, and they have become convinced that they are of royal lines. "Fetch me a grape, and do peel it first, por favour." Etc. You know cats!

I like the verse in your signature line. :)
