Second post on my Ruby trip. For those of you who do not know, Ruby is 4 miles inside the US border in an area of low mountains. Most of the ridges, and even the peaks are under 6,000, and Ruby itself is at about 4,000. There are oak trees around and a lot of mesquite that seem to be dead (why, I have no clue). It takes more than an hour to get from the freeway there. One needs a permit to enter. The mine produced lead, zink, and copper along with some gold and silver. The main shaft was 700 feet deep, and then lateral bores went out from there. So the mountain behind the mind is riddled with shafts. If you drop a pebble down the shaft, it takes a long time to hear it klunk. About 1500 people lived there in its heyday. There were two bunkhouses and a boarding house for single men, a tent city up on the far hill, and various houses scattered around the hillsides. A lot is adobe construction with some frame additions.
I'll be posting some of the adobe buildings next.
One might have trouble starting this beauty. No motor.

Old piano in the schoolhouse. A few of the keys still play - some. Taken with my friend's wide angle lens, as my 28mm wouldn't cover it!

The teeter-totter has one end sort of missing. It was probably laid over either a barrel or a large log.

Very nice set. Haven't been there for almost 20 years, thanks for the memories

Thanks, Curmudgeon. I'd be interested in any changes you see from when you were there and now.
