Part of the story here is that back in the day, you farmers in my generatiog will understand this, they had school houses along the country roads and kids would walk to school as school buses began in the late 50's/early 60's. However because of distances some farmers brought them to school. Now kids woud walk barefooted and put their shoes on once arriving at school, to save the shoes. Several of my neighbours were raised like that. That house is a fair distence from the road isn't it? Must have been a hardwalk sometimes.
