I received a new X100-V for Christmas. Love the camera, but recently if I am within three feet or so of my subject, a “Focus error” message appears on the Screen, the camera locks up, and must be turned off and turned on again to function.
Has anyone else run across this problem? Very strange.

What mode are you in, and what is the minimum distance for that mode?
I'm in "zone" mode.
It just happened at about two feet.
Oddly it doesn't happen 100% of the time, but when it does the camera must be turned off.
If you have a 100V check page 313 of the manual! I think I have a problem.

Those intermittent malfunctions can drive you nuts - I would call Fuji support. Good luck!
That camera focuses down to nearly macro so it might have a range limiter setting to avoid AF hunting at general photography distances. RTFM yet ???

What does RTFM mean?
It’s unprintable.
In the past, the included expletive made it an angry remark toward the user who had not tended to the thing.
But since the thing is now usually 400 pages of poorly written material, the expletive now targets the thing itself.
Betting that you crack this riddle in under 90 seconds !
Read The Fuji Manual. There, I printed it!

If your camera has a close up mode, you may have to turn it on. Most of the time it is on the lens, many older Minolta lenses had a slide on the lens.
I believe your AF system is fine, I believe it is a learning curve type of thing. If you can't fine focus limiters in the manual you may want to contact Fuji customer service.

I too noticed the poor written expression in a Fuji camera manual. The font appears faint as well. The lack of enough contrast renders the type difficult to read.

I have the Fuji X100V, and have shot images from about 6 inches, with no problem.
Suggest you contact Fuji support.
