Lets see what you think ? So I have this old lens I got at Ritz Camera in 2006 for $99 on sale. It never performed very well on my DSLR and had terrible purple chromatic aberations, low contrast, just generally a crappy lens. Now I have a micro four thirds camera and I generally like to go through all the lenses I own and use them to see how I might apply their characteristics to a particular genre of photography. This old lens is a Quantaray (Tamron Rebrand for Ritz) 70-300mm 1:4-5.6, Tele-Macro 1:2. I have a set of old Pentax Extension tubes and put a #1 on the lens and attached it to the Pentax adapter to fit my Olympus EM10 Mark II and took a few shots indoors to see how it performed. I have in camera image stabilization, focus peaking and magnification so could get really sharp focus with it. Hmm, performed pretty well indoors and had good color, contrast and sharpness. Let's see how it does outdoors. It was a sunny day so had the lens hood on and took a walk through a park area that had some ducks. Most shots were between 10-20 ft away and were shot between 2-300mm which with the crop sensor is 4-600mm. All hand held, manual focus ISO set at 1000 and aperture at 5.6. I could not believe the shots I got! I don't understand optical physics but adding the #1 extension to the lens made it perform extremely well.
I ran all the photos through DxO PhotoLab 4 with DeepPrime Denoise to TIFF and then processed through Topaz Sharpen AI Stabilize with minimal setting. Then processed in Color Effex Pro 4 to JPEG. I thought they came out surprisingly well considering the mediocre quality of this lens. What do you think ? RJW

Looks as though you have found a magic combo. Don't throw the lens away! Please stay safe and keep on sharing.

On that small sensor you are only using the center "sweet spot" of the lens and the extension tube makes the part of the part of the sweet spot you are using even smaller.
