Thanks for your insight. I DID read from the start of the thread, including your comment. The OP requested XQD and not CFE.

It was just a suggestion due to the fact most if not all of Nikon's that first used XQD now can with the firmware update CF Express b cards and the XQD cards are going down the road of the betamax.

I've been using one in my D850 and like it.

I bought a used D500 from KEH and I'm wondering what other owners are using for memory (XQD) cards.
Bought it mainly for BIF and other wildlife shots.

Is the CF express B card the same as a XQD card?

If XQD cads are on the way out, why would Nikon put an XQD slot in its D850?

New firmware for the D850 allows you to use the CF Express b, after my purchase of the D850 and before the purchase of an XQD card I had heard that the new firmware was coming. Did some research found out that Sony would probably be the only company producing the XQD card in the future. I have been using the CF Express with great success, the firmware update on the D850 was easy.

Would I need a new reader for the CF express card, or will it work in my xqd card reader?

I know I can download directly from camera bit that seems to be much slower.

I believe you will need a new reader.

Thanks.

That adds another $60. Maybe I’ll try it first.

Ordered the 64 from Adorama. Same price. Rip off compared to sd cards! But paid $89/for my 32 xqd card, and believe they are still the same price.

Found CF express b readers on Amazon for $39.

I have a few XQD cards; why should I change from an XQD to a CF Express card? Speed and reliability are features that I believe are most important, which one is faster? I assume they are both reasonably close when it come to reliability.

Don't think you should change, this was about a first time purchase.

Thanks again for all the responses. I may be missing something but it looks like the Sony cards (XQD) have the fastest read and write speeds. The available Lexar XQD cards are slower by comparison. I may or may not need the speed but I don't want to find out the hard way. I've ordered one of the fast, Sony cards and a new Sandisk SD card (both 64GB) and the price difference is striking!
