If you have the $$$ consider Leica B&W (Monochrome) Digital camera. You probably would not need HDR with that and no remnants. Such a camera would give you a more natural film like image. Personally I am happy with B&W conversions from color digital. If I want real b&w I still have 35mm and 4x5" cameras. I try to avoid lighting conditions where HDR might be needed.

πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ I don't own the Leica Monochrom but I would but I would love to own one someday. Or at least rent one for a few weeks to see if I like it. Currently I convert my images in PP. My cameras have a setting to automatically do HDR. My B&W experiences date back to the 1960's.

I am only referring to the Leica because I read about it. I could only dream of owning one. If I did have such money I would want a Digital Medium Format camera. I too started with Film back in 1977.

It would be nice if some of the Leica Monochrome owners out there would show us some of their photos as well as comparison photos... Leica Monochrome vs Color shots converted

I shoot a 5-exposure HDR shot, processed with Nik, then process that with Nik Silver Effex. It’s quick and easy, and it produces excellent results.

Hi my name is Chris. I began my adventure in photography in 1984 using a cold head enlarger and lots of tri x and I’m crazy about Cartier Bresson and superealism.
I do enjoy color that has a dye transfer look but my real interest is still in Black and White. I also shoot black and white video.
Looking to explore the proper way to approach Black and White HDR.
Does anyone have any tips from experience?

This image is a three shot HDR merged in PS CS6 then converted to monochrome and saved as an rgb color.

I was amazed that the Bull stood still for all three shots.

Photomatix has a automatic setting to fix for moving objects even in batch feeding. Works pretty good.

Thank you. I have Photomatix so I’ll get on that. I have used Nik in the past and liked it but have gotten tied up in knots with the multiple sell offs and haven’t been able to verify my account with Dox the new owners. They are asking for more money I’ve bought it when it was Google.
Anyway I have several pending video jobs which suck up time. But I’m anxious to get back to my work. Thank you very helpful I’ll check back when I have something.
