I have a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8D in Excellent condition, with caps and hood. I'm not a professional, so it hasn't been used daily, but produces "pro type" results. It is listed on eBay now but I could de-list if interested. PM me and I can provide photos and other info.

I have it listed on eBay for $450 which includes Free Shipping (to USA Only). Lens, HB-7 Hood, Front and Rear Caps, all original made in Japan merchandise. What were you thinking for yours?

Frank let me give you my opinion..you know what they say about opinions.
In same situation as you a few years ago. I purchased a refurbished Canon 77D, same a previous poster I don't buy anything 'new'. I have a few lens but my go to lens is the 18-135 STM that I bought used from MPB a seller of used equipment that comes with a warranty, my lens looked and functioned as new.
A poster suggested Canon D80, 77D is newer camera with more features for less money.
My reason for choosing Canon vs Nikon is the Canon is able to detect flicker in indoor lighting such as indoor athletic fields, Nikon can not.

Mine is a push pull the model before the d. Im asking 175. Nice lens. I just have a newer one now.

I recently did what you want to do. I went with Canon as I had some old Canon lenses. Used equipment will save you a bunch. Most of what I bought was less than half of list price new or a third. Mirrorless is the fad, but, DSLR is still great and you can get a lot more camera for your money in the used market. Don’t be afraid of eBay. Just learn how to do it. Lots of choices. Stay with sellers that have close to 100% feedback. Look for low shutter count cameras. Lots of reviews on u-tube to research what you think you want. If you see a real deal show up on eBay, grab it. It won’t be there tomorrow. I got some great equipment from Japan. It showed up faster than some domestic purchases.

i would start with a nik 3500 kit [ $ 500 ] or equivalent brand , and go from there .later on if needed you could move up and use the 3500 as a back up .

When I decided to get back into photography some years ago, I picked Nikon. The main reason was the availability of a lot of excellent older used prime lens for very reasonable cost that are still better, in many but not all cases, than the current zoom lenses. Camera bodies are always changing but a good lens can last, at least until the camera maker decides to change the lens mount.

Because of the release of the new R6 & R5 by Canon (I own the R and R5) I'd consider the Canon R with the RF 24-105 f4 L IS kit lens. The prices should be dropping with the release of the R5 & 6 and it's a fantastic camera. Same sensor as the Canon 5D IV.
