In the latest spending offering from Congress, $4.5 million was included for bobcat urine to spray on alcoholic rats. I have never seen an alcoholic rat, nor have I ever seen a bobcat in the wild. I do wonder where the rats are buying their booze. And who holds the bobcat while they pee in the cup?
Have done white water through there several times. Got pitched out once and hauled back in. Also driven from one side to the other across the river level bridge. Worth a visit!
My Parents moved to WVa in '67 when my Father took a position teaching ChemEng at West Va Tech, then located in Montgomery. They were very happy in WVa. I know the area pretty well. Hawk's Nest has some spectacular views. When the Bridge was under construction I drove along the New River; somewhere I have some wonderful Ektachrome slides of that drive, some looking up at the half-finished span. More recently I shot some 120 BW with my Pentax 645n from various spots in the park at one end of the bridge.
Since "they" aren't making any more land, let alone lovely wooded land, the country should establish as many National Parks as possible, so that future generations will have a chance at re-creation as well as recreation.
Love the National Park system and the Federal Lands and waters available to the public as well as a place for Nature to flourish.
When the foreign countries that hold our National Debt come knocking on the door for payment they will take ownership of the Fed owned properties and the resources on them as partial payment for the debt.

If everything in every bill had to be v**ed on individually congress would be backed up for the next hundred years.
National parks are a good thing IMHO.

Thank you for that comment. I have always been outraged by some of the irrelevant things passed in such a manner. Now at least, I can understand a plausible rationale. It's always good to consider the bigger picture. Being critical of others takes a lot of energy. Putting yourself in their shoes requires much less.

As far as your question about holding the bobcat, our vet can get a urine sample from a pet cat by withdrawing some via a hypo through the abdominal wall into the bladder. Still gotta hold the bobcat! I'd suspect a bobcat would be given a general.
Senator William Proxmire in days gone by would award a "Golden Fleece Award" to projects he found not to his taste. I seem to recall that one such appropriation led to the development of powerful yet safe insect lures for non-toxic traps. Pheromones, perhaps....
Would you be so kind as to furnish a link to the grant you mention?

The creation of the parkis probably a good thing, but part of a c***d stimulus bill? Really?
100% agree. Would have imagined SOMEONE would have made a law stating that a bill must have a title, and all things not directly related to said title cannot be on on the bill.
