I bought a macro Ring Light from fellow UHH member WF2B in July and the spirit finally moved me to do some macro. So to test it I put my 100 mm f/2.8 macro on my 5DIV. Mounted the Ring Light flash, took one shot of my paper weight on the desk to make sure the batteries I put in were good and went out in the yard. This was my first subject. I'll post more later, I may stretch them out for the weekend.
5DIV, Canon 100 f/2.8 Macro, 1/160 @ f/11, ISO-400
hand held with Ring Flash on lens at 4PM so the flash did not have sun light to compete with
Robert green and red are complimentary colors... always work well together...
Delightful composition.... f/11 was very effective at this focal length...
Only a few very small hot spots on the green leaf exceeded the dynamic range of the Canon 5DIV's sensor...
Does this camera have an HDR option?
Beautifully done...
Thank you for sharing Robert...

Thank you very much.
Most of the small hotspots are grains of pollen reflecting light though some of the also polished looking leaves were very bright as you noticed.
The 5DIV does in camera HDR but I prefer to shot frames in RAW and do the HDR stacking in PP.
I have one two shot focus stack of milkweed flowers for later.
The F/11 almost got everything in focus. Just a bit of some anthers on the stigma, near side blurred. The flower is still there and in sun right now, I may try another with stacking for focus and hdr late this afternoon or tomorrow. But a stiff breeze has the flower doing a frantic dance right now.
Another beauty, Bob! Have not seen you posting lately.

Robert, this is an awesome way to use both the flash and lens. You will have a ball trying this out on different items.

Thanks, I just haven't felt like it much and got into doing a lot of reading instead.

Thanks, I plan to use my Tamron 180 macro with it also and try it on my different bodies to see what results I can get. Next is the 100 mm with the 90D body, then 80D and finally 7DII. Then I will go through the rotation with the 180 macro. If I can get her to try it I will give my wife some lessons with her 760D/T6s and teach her some macro an flash use at the same time.
We have two Bridge/Super Zooms also, if I have the right size adaptor I will try it on them also.

Bob, this jumps out at you with fine detail and color.
Great job - Jim
