Microsoft Publisher

I have a new computer. It came with Microsoft Office.
On my old computer I used Microsoft Publisher to do many things - among them a newsletter.
Like many of you, I do not want to subscribe to the Microsoft Office for all of the reasons enumerated on this site.

Any recommendations? I know Microsoft Publisher is advertised separately at a very attractive price but I assume it is a pirated version if it works at all.

Thank you.

Take a look at Affinity Publisher; there should be a free trial. It's purchase once, no subscription. It even integrates well with Affinity Photo (and Affinity Designer.)

Office 365 offers many templates to be used with Word. Check this MS website. Gary https://templates.office.com/en-us/software-newsletter-tm33530201

There are alternatives that are low cost or free. Do a search for open source.
I recently purchased a MS Office 7 with a full license on-the-cheap.

I enthusiastically second David's suggestion. I switched to Affinity Publisher a couple of years ago after an old, standalone version of InDesign bit the dust and I didn't want to get involved with Adobe's subscription model. I've used Affinity now to produce both newsletters and calendars and have been pleased with the results. It's been a while since I've used Microsoft Publisher, but my impression of it then was that it wasn't nearly as capable as the
Adobe PageMaker (InDesign's predecessor) that I abandoned it for. Something else about Affinity that David didn't mention is that updates are free.

I use Libre Office. It's free but they accept donations to support further development and I donate each year.

If the MS Office came with a new computer it's probably a trial version. You will eventually need to subscribe and pay the toll to continue using it.

I second bertloomis' advise - give Libre Office a try. It's a very capable program. And the price is right.

Why not try Libra Office. You just make a donation for the program does everything the Microsoft office does

Scribus is a free open source page layout program.
It has a learning curve but is quite capable.
I use it on Linux, but it has windows version also.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, the MS Office is a trial version. I have not and will not subscribe. Regarding MS Publisher, it has been adequate for my needs and can easily find my way around the menu.

I believe Publisher 2019 is still available from Microsoft for a one-time payment. If you are comfortable with Publisher, stick with it.

I use libreoffice calc it can be downloaded for free. It does a good job and it saves to windows documents. It is easy to print documents. I even use it to figure my taxes.
