An attempt at light painting. I used a Long Exposure and lighted the knife and my leg separately.

Open to critiques .. 😊

Sir, I have noticed that, for some reason, pictures posted here tend to fall short on brightness.

In my other groups, the exposure is fine.

😊

The leg you can tell what it is but, the knife I would of not known if you didn't say. Just a little more light on the knife should help. I'm guessing your going for dark & thriller type of photo & understand the darkness. Just trying to help.

I could identify the knife and sheaf. I think the leg is out of focus. What distracts me is the floor with its alternate stripes and slit in the middle. Also, if you're going for a noir-type photo, I think one element that is missing is a fedora, typically worn in that genre.

We, as a group, like not to overexpose ourselves. At least not in public.

I think that you need to adjust the color you are using for posting. sRGB works best on UHH.

I like it just the way it is. But, if you really want to you could use the "save the original" button when you post. That allows viewers to download to see a larger version of the photo. But more importantly, the download is often more true to original color and light than the thumbnail version.
Again, I think it's a fine photo as is.
What do you use for a light source to "paint" with?

Thank you Sir .. Glad you liked it .. 😊

I would be saving the original for members to have a better view.

As for lighting, since my camera was on a 30 sec exposure in a pitch dark room, I had plenty of time at disposal. I used a brief burst of light off a portable torch to light my feet (yes, thats me in the picture) which freezed that part. Then I walked over to the knife and used the light off my mobile phone screen along the lengths to light the knife and sheath (there was no flashlight in my phone in those days 😋), which completed the frame.

To me, a little too dark. If you hadn't told us what it was, I would still be scratching my head... 🥺
