Recent favorites from around the St. Petersburg area ~ part 1
It's been a while since I posted, and this even applies to my own social media/facebook updates. But that does not mean I stopped shooting. It just means I built up a fair number of favorite shots, even though it seems like I have come across many less critters in my travels this last year.
I'm shooting with a very worn Nikon d3400 - and my go to is common, a very standard 70 -300. Enjoy and comments are as always appreciated.
I am hoping to afford some better glass, and a Better Camera Body soon to step things up even more!

Like them all, but really love the reddish egret. Keep up the good work.
Great shots from the gear you have. I have an old D3200 and the 70-300. You will enjoy the increase in quality, contrast and sharpness when you can afford to upgrade. If the budget is tight, investigate the used camera and lens marketplace. You may have to 're-learn' camera controls and shooting techniques with the new hardware. But, the results are well worth it.
I have to point out that what you produced in your two posted sets proves that it is not the gear, but the photographer that makes good photos. Excellent work, thanks for sharing.
He was awesome - the sunset added some nice warmth but made harsher shadows and lack of contrast in many shots - But in order to get the "exposure" with the level of light available I had so many with motion blur - He was a willing subject and I walked up and down the beach following him so the fact that I was able to take so many shots allowed me the opportunity to catch a few specials.
Thanks for the comments!
Sometimes when I am cropping and looking hard to decide which shot is slightly crisper or has that "something" that makes it special. I sense I could play more with lenses that gave me better aperture/light or had less distortion - As a narrative illustrator I think that helps me have a good eye for catching good composition - shots that feel like they tell a story. But it wasn't until I stepped up to the 24 megapixel range that I started to really get excited about what I was able to capture - the downside is all the shots I took in Phoenix now seem horrible heheh.
Thanks for the comments. I'm always keeping my eyes open for nice Long Primes or telephotos (cheap) a nice 200-500 or 150-600 - and watching as well for an affordable d800 or d810.

Great captures, compositions and renderings. As mentioned by others, your skill level is way above average. The 70-300 you are using is clearly a fine lens. I wouldn't throw it away, I am still using a 75-300mm Nikon on a mirrorless (with an appropriate adapter). Please stay safe and keep on sharing.
