Kern River Shots

We went to a campout / Bluesfest at the Kern River this past weekend. I of course couldn't pass up the chance to take a few photos.

These are a set of Bracketed shots at -2 0 +2 and they were processed using Photomatix, PSE10, and my newest purchase Topaz Adjust.

C & C welcome

Love what you are doing with the HDR processing though you need to watch the whites a little on the light coloured rocks in full sun. I am glad you have got hold of Topaz adjust it is a wonderful program to use in conjunction with HDR. Have fun exploring. One thing, and I know I keep banging on about it, in the second pic, your horizontal need adjusting. There is an element of optical illusion in the second one because the road at the back slopes up but you can see from the river line, and the fact that all the trees are sloping to the left that it is markedly offline. I suspect that the first pic also slopes but it is not as obvious. Apart from this it is lovely work, keep it up.

Thanks, I see what you are saying about the horizontal in the picture. I let Photoshop E do the adjustment automatically and I just accepted it. I just looked again after reading your post and put it into Picasa's straightening tool and I liked it much better I used the road as my line to measure.

I guess I could use more contrast in the rocks that are in the sun. Thanks for the advice much appreciated!

Beautiful! Makes me want to sit on that big boulder over there and dabble my toes in the water.

Thanks we did just that, it felt good on a 95 degree day. We actually had a little pool made by stacking river rock up with a couple lounge chairs in it. We always have a good time camping there. ;)

Good compositions and agree with conkerwood. As you have corrected the horizon in the second image, now try counter-rotating the first image by 1 degree. You will be surprised what a difference it makes. The rocks look too blue to me. Maybe see if it can be toned down in a photoeditor?
You mentioned giving more contrast to the rocks in the sun. Don't! The rocks and other light parts will be burnt out. Both images have good contrast already. If you want to show more contrast, use the 'burn' too and selectively burn in the shadow areas but not to the extent of losing details in them.
