Blurry Pics! Ideas?

I have a Canon 6D with 28-300mm older lens without vibration compensation. I was getting blurry pictures at full zoom and figured it was due to lack of VC. I since have tried tripod, remote release, mirror lockup, increasing shutter speed, etc. I have had no luck eliminating the blur at full zoom. Lower zoom levels appear to be just fine. Has anyone experienced this or have some ideas? I am looking to replace it with a newer 28-300mm PZD w/ VC, but would like to know if it may be something simple or less expensive I can do with this lens. All your input is greatly appreciated.
-Thank you!

Examples may help in any possible diagnosis.

How are you focusing? Manual or auto?

I took my car to the mechanic and all I told him it was that making a noise. He didn't fix it.

It does sound like you have tried many of the usual solutions. A couple of things come to mind though. Remember at full zoom you are magnifying any errors to the greatest extent you can.
1) autofocus small error. try focussing in manual focus using live view and see if things continue to come out blurry. If that fixes it, try auto focus fine tuning if body offers it.
2) tripod/head is a bit wimpy. often the smaller tripods do not keep things sufficiently stable. if you have a small one try borrowing a stouter one and see if that helps.
3) finally it is possible that the lens is simply not as sharp at the long end of its range and nothing you can do will change it.

That would suggest it's the lens itself that's the problem. Either it's a shortcoming that you've only just recently become more aware of or it's something that's become worse recently because of wear or possibly a knock. It's also possible that cold weather is aggravating a pre-existing condition.

I get what your saying, but
If he did , you wouldn't have to come back.

I purchased a new tripod & it is waqy better than my old one but, I notice the tripod collar/foot has some flex. On the tripod I have no problems but I might replace it with one available from RRS.

I had similar issue with my 75-200L lens. Was a bit out of focus at 200 using auto focus. Fine tuned auto focus with FoCal and it helped quite a bit.
