Sony just bought a $644m share of Olympus in an attempt to lay its hands on better camera technology. Interesting. [WSJ]
Let us look at the agglomeration of technology over the years: Minolta Maxxium lenses co-teched with Leica and Zeiss after WW2. Minolta first with autofocus electronic settings. Konica bought them... Then Sony which with great electronic resources and the smart step of using AF lens technology and mounting..(I had 1980s lenses,so had to buy Sony) Sony is making a great camera series... making inroads into Canon/Nikon Religomyth.
Now combining with the mfg and tech of Olympus great move... consider if you have the combining of two separate approaches to problem solving and two technology specializations resulting from the evolution of the cameras... well combine those factors and Look out world.
Well get rid of those Olympus Accountants that really messed up the Olympus bottom line.. that is a must...
OOPS FORGOT TO MENTION: If you combine the MFGing facilities of both, you can flood the market with multitudes of cameras and have the faithful of both markets.. The advertising will be cheaper because you have one big company to sell. Smart would be to offer the super tech camera capable of having either mount and or offering various mount abilities so the Nikon/Canon people can switch easily.

I agree. Adaptors are presently available so you can attach Nikon and canon glass to Sony. However, the question is why would a person want to do that (other than $$$ already invested) when there so many Minolta AF lenses, Sony lenses (brand, Ziess, and G).
ChapJohn? "there so many Minolta AF lenses, Sony lenses (brand, Ziess, and G)." Surly you jest, there are probably no more than 20,000,000 of those lenses on the market at any one time..... 1985 on ward and with adapter and manual focus all of those big old glass M-42 (Pentax screw) mount lenses.
I have both lenses..AF Minolta and M-42 with adapters. My longest is a Tamaron AF 70-300 mm which is 105-450mmwith factor. Love my Sony.. and those affordable lenses that were in my closet for years...
