recently, i was gifted a Pentax Spotmeter VI with the Zone VI filter pack. the battery check works, and the backlight functions normally, the needle goes to the little black circle where it's supposed to when the button is not pressed, but when i try to take a light reading nothing happens.

help!

and suggestions or assistance would be greatly appresciated.

Consider Richard for repair if you want to use it.

I used one of those ages ago and the similar Soligor Spotmeter. I really dont remember much. I have a Digital Minolta Spotmeter F, but it displays the readout and there is no match needle or calculator ring. What do you see in the view finder? How do you know it is not working? Did you try new batteries? Do you have the owners manual? Perhaps someone on the UHH knows that unit well.

the batteries are OK - pretty much new (about two months old) and there is a 'battery check' feature on this guy ... when you press the 'battery check' button, the needle moves to a black line ... if the batteries aren't there, or they're worn out / discharged, the needle doesn move or doesn't reach the black band ...

i have the Minolta Flashmeter III, but it's not a spotmeter, (much to my dismay, because it's a really nice meter)

I sent Richard an e- mail ... was he with Fred Pickard? i could kick myself for not scraping the money together when we first moved here to go to one of his classes ... Marlboro College (where my oldest daughter got her undergraduate degree) had some original photos from some of the greats (i vaguely remember an Adams in the collection) ... they were displayed in the Serkin Center ... i figure that they were donated, either directly from his estate or from the executor when the death tax bill came in ...

anyway, thanks for the info and the words of encouragement.

If you push the battery check button and the needle moves to the correct range the battery is good. If you push the measure button below the battery check button and the needle doesn't move perhaps the button is bad.

Thanks. That makes sense to me, but i'll be the first to admit electronic illiteracy.

If you do a search on EBay (or other sites), you will find that there is, available, a spotmeter attachment for your Flashmeter III. I also believe that you could find a color meter attachment.

The Minolta spot attachment is only either 10 or 5 degrees and no there is no attachment to measure color temperature with the flashmeter III. The Pentax Spotmeter demands quite a good price on the used market so may be it's a good idea to send it out for repair.
