They are here now for the winter, we have approx 12-15, sometimes many more (mix of youngsters, m & f, pairs - and will have new babies before they leave) in the yard and on our feeders, along with many, many. many other songbirds/snowbids. I will be doing a lot of of shots over the next few months, until they all pack their bags and go back north.....will be fun!!! We give the birds year round water and food. There must be a bird travellers map with us on it, we get large groups/flocks back each year....four decades of feathered visitors......
Ole

Hi Chuck, We focus on the songbirds, but do also provide some for all the others. We use three types...one is the same mix (from local feed store-recomended by the birding/wildlife center at Black Point/Merrit Island Natl. Wildlife refuge) it is a small to bulk purchase style 5-to-50 lb bags. The other is a "pre-hauled" or no waste from Pennington (for those birds raising families), and we also throw some sunflower, peanuts etc. Pennington Ultra Songbird Blend on ground in in the bird feeding area. Nice ornamental bird bath watering station, fresh daily!! Our method is probably more than most want to do, but we genuinely enjoy the bird activity - sit out with them at least an hour everyday, often more....and when I shoot I don't need a blind!! Ours is also located under a large evergreen, which the birds seem to love (and it's outside the kitchen window). We also gave up on chasing the squirrels out, I just squirrel proof the feeders, best I can...
One thing we've noticed from decades of doing this....if you stop for a while, they have to redicsover your location. We do it year round.

I know I get excited when I see one here at my place, even though it happens nearly every year. I sure don't fault people for wanting to see beauty like that. Gorgeous birds!
