My freezer has everything covered with a beautiful layer of frost. Let me get my camera!

Air must be getting somehow, so I'll have to empty it and see what I can find. The gasket around the door looks good. This is a pull-out freezer at the bottom of the fridge.

This is a good time of year to have to empty the freezer, just put it on the porch (LOL).

My brother sends me something from Omaha Steaks every year, so I have four of those large styrofoam coolers. They're filled, and the freezer is open to let the ice melt. I removed all I could, and nature is doing the rest. Removing the top freezer shelf was ridiculously difficult. One thing to consider with a fridge that has the freezer on the bottom: there's no way to reach in a wipe the freezer clean because that big door is in the way. I used a rag and a sponge on a pickup stick. I'll make some modifications before I put it back.

EDIT: Cleaned and ready for food. I'm going to take inventory as the food goes back in.

I hated my fridge with the two doors on top and one large freeze drawer on the bottom. Same reason as you; Sometimes something falls way to the back and it's very difficult to reach back there and get it and impossible to clean back there. They say that they hold more stuff, but I'd rather have easy access to my frozen goods. Out in my garage I had a single door freezer. That was the best but I let it go with my condo when I sold it. Now I have two side by sides. The one in the house is pretty new and looks great. The one in my garage works good but it's pretty old looking. Great shape though. I have not tested the ice maker.

I agree very hard to reach the bottom back to clean. Perhaps the drawer/door was just slightly ajar and that allowed it to frost up?

We have a Whirpool upright circa 1980, which sat unplugged in the basement as a storage unit (paint brushes, etc) since 1987. When Covid started I thought I'd see if it still worked. Fired it up. Went to -7° in 3 hours. A little frosty but I think it always was. Costco bills are higher than ever and now I worry about power failures. A backup generator may be on the horizon.

Generator is a smart move in the event of a power failure. Depending, how much is in the freezer, 2-3 power failures & it would pay for itself.

See above. If you're a good boy, I'll post some pics of the inside of the fridge. I bet I can get some really cool shots.

Hi Gerry and happy New Year. My wife waits for a cold day and empties our freezer (we have an up-right all freezer) and then uses a fan to blow warm air in to melt the ice. Then brings every thing in and fills freezer.

Jerry. You probably just had a package off kilt which let a little air in the unit. I’ll always push both the top and bottom doors whenever I go by making sure their shut.
My wife and I love the bottom freezer since you don’t use it as much and can see everything in the refrigerator standing up rather than hunched over

Thanks. I think the problem might have been that the top shelf was packed too tightly, and it was blocking something. That was one of the reasons given online for freezer frost. Taking everything out and putting it back neatly made it take up less room. So far, it's okay.
