I was under the impression that the two cameras had the same sensors and processors. Since you can get Zeiss glass for the A99, how in the world can the RX1 be 10x better???? I'm sceptical. But even if I accepted the conclusion and had a money pit (I do, but it's the kind that sucks it in, not spits it out), I still wouldn't be inclined to get an RX1 and be limited to a 35mm lens. But what do I know.
And although I'm debating the A99, I'll probably pass and stick with my A850 for a while longer.
The RX-1 is a large p&s, that's for sure. It does have all sorts of cool toys but $2,800.00 worth?
Anyway, I have a Carl Zeiss 70mm lens for my Sony a580 which is only 16mp. It takes just as good of photos as shown in the review. I just can't blow a photo up to the size of an airplane hanger. Too bad.
So, if one were to compare apples to apples, an a99 with the same size Carl Zeiss lens on it, the a99 should do just as well as the RX-1. Therefore, the a99 should beat out the RX-1 in versatility. The only problem being that the a99 does not fit in a pocket very well. And at the price of the a99, I won;t be getting it any time soon. I don't shoot movies so I won't miss anything there either.
