Can anyone recommend a means of converting *.pdf to *.png photos? or a means of viewing a scrapbook of *.pdf files. Win 10 does not provide thumbnails for *.pdf... or, I've been unable to do this. Thanks...

A PDF file is a document format. Do you have access to the original images in an image format like JPEG, or the embedded images in one of Microsoft's DOC formats?

No, my scanner defaults to *.pdf. I want to view the thumbnails, because there are duplicates under a different file name... to weed them out. I'll take the better photos and scan them using a real scanner once I can view them. Thanks, Dik

If using a scanner, seriously review the settings as PDF is the least useful option and would seem to be something that can be corrected. What model, specifically?

The scanner is an Epson V600 that I will use. The photos were scanned using a Fuji ScanSnap for speed... once I weed them out, I'll use the V600 for the good ones. I just want to convert them so I can view the thumbnails... Dik

Use any free screenshot program. Display the pdf, png file on your computer screen so you have the whole picture visible. Take a regional screenshot of the picture, copy to clipboard, and paste into your photo editor. Save from the photo editor to a designated folder as a jpg or any other type of file you wish. Then use your favorite photo viewer program to open up the designated folder and, voila, there are all your photos displayed in thumb nails.

If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed you can open any .pdf file just by double clicking on it. I don't know how that works if you want to browse multiple files, though.

You may be able to find a codec pack that enables viewing of .pdf files in your operating system image viewers and/or generates jpg preview files. Another option I found but can't vouch for is PDF-XChange Viewer (or possibly PDF-XChange Editor) - both are freeware.

The scanner may default to PDF, but other options for output are selectable, like JPEG.
At least both my scanners are capable of selecting other output formats.

Is Adobe Reader associated with .PDF files in the computer?
On my Windows box they are and Explorer displays the contents of a PDF.

The problem is that I have hundreds of these files and I only want to do a 'batch' conversion so I can view the thumbnails to discard duplicates and to see which files are 'worth' saving.

"The scanner may default to PDF"

Not the ScanSnap... only *.pdf

FYI - CutePDF Professional (CutePDF.com) lets me save a PDF as images (JPEGs), but I have no idea what quality as I've never done it. It will create a JPEG for each page in the PDF.

Thanks, I'll try it out... images don't have to be great... only want them for thumbnails so I can view in file explorer to check for duplicates and possible better photos... I have a few? that are only mediocre.

I think you can open PDF in Photoshop and then save it as another format.
