Received the third BRAND NEW Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS. II USM
I sent the other 2 lenses back because of dust in both lens. This lens has I believe dust on the outside of the lens. I used the pen like cleaner per directions in a circular motion withe soft tip. I am not sure if it is inside the lens. I did a sensor cleaner put my 24-70 lens on and did not see any dust.
Put on the new 70-300 and I see dust. Is there anything safe to use on the front side and back side
of the lens for cleaning them. I have alcohol wipes, but I do not want an issue if I return it AGAIN if indeed it is on the inside?
Reason I ask is because I really want to make sure it is on inside and not outside.
It takes a good picture, but for $549, I do not want dust inside. Any suggestions would be helpful before I return? Anybody have to send a lens back three times? Did you give up and forget about buying the lens?

I didn't even look inside my Sigma zoom or Canon 50mm when I received them.
I just used them. They work great.

There is a certain amount of dust in every lens I own. Even my 9 month old 105mm micro vr from Nikon bought new. You have to search for it but its there. All my lenses take great pgotos with the dust and I'm a pizel peeping numbskull. Best of luck.
I am speaking about receiving a 3rd brand new lens with dust in it. When you look through the lens to take a picture you see dust one the first lens received and the lint on the 2nd new lens replacing the first and now a third replacement and there is dust and spots when you look through this lens also. My question was is there anyway of cleaning the new lens front glass and rear glass besides a brush
And air. Canyou use a liquid cleaner on the glasswith no problems, if I havde to send it back.
Did I explain it better?
Thank you

I use Nikon and Zeiss lens wipes. Both are fine for all optics. I use them on the front and back of all my lenses. Also my eyeglasses. Have never had an issue.
I use Zeiss lens wipes also.

Dear Picturemom,
When you sent the first 2 lenses back to Canon, did you receive any feedback from them regarding the dust - any explanation? It would seem to me that dust inside several versions of the same lens would be a manufacturing problem. Clearly from the responses to your post, other photographers have not experienced such an issue. If you have carefully cleaned both ends of the outside of your lens and then shot several images, what is the result? Do you see dust spots on those images? If the images look good, I would think you do not have a problem.
Maybe your mirror is dusty. This would be why you do not see dust in the photo but in the view finder.
try using your home vacuum cleaner with hose .i cant believe send 2 lenses back for outside dust .when lenses have finger print like spots , old fashion windex , moist towel with it , not spray on .
