Fedex is getting more bad criticism the last several days on a local Baltimore TV station. Same old same old.

Along similar lines, a package sent to me on December 12, from Texas was in Rochester, NY, on December 15. That was via UPS, but the tracking indicated the acceptance by USPS was "pending," whatever that means. Ups claimed it had been delivered to USPS but USPS denied any knowledge of it.

The package miraculously appeared on USPS tracking as "out for delivery" in my city in NW Pennsylvania, on December 30, 15 days after it was turned over to the USPS. I could have driven to Rochester, picked up the package and driven back home in about four hours.

This from My USPS Informed Delivery app when I checked it today.
BTW I have no recollection of ordering anything from Kroger.
Started in NC, went to CA, then to NJ. I live in NY.

FWIW, I found out that Kroger's in VA would accept my Waldbaum's customer card (you know, the one that got you discounts). I'm guessing they are related somehow?
Now, if you ordered anything from Waldbaum's is another matter :)

My wife’s theory is that each office in the system (USPS, UPS, FEDEX, etc.) is under strict orders to clear the backlog every day. Therefore, parcels get sent out randomly on the next truck leaving, regardless of where they are supposed to be going. I had one parcel start in Ontario, Canada, travel to San Francisco, then show up in Puerto Rico, get lost for a week, then get delivered in Massachusetts. The good news is that these lost packages do seem to be finally getting delivered. Happy New Year!

Crap happens. With millions of transactions happening daily, a given delivery may become bungled in the system. It's part of modern life.

Fed EX, UPS and USPS were all flooded with extreme volumes of mail and packages in December as more folks were mailing packages in place to personally delivering them to family and friends. Yes, it was frustrating because we became accustomed to very quick and on-time delivery.
I also heard that as many as 15,000 postal service workers were sidelined for Covid, both infections and quarantine requirements. On top of this there was also the fact that significant automated sorting equipment was removed from about 600 postal facilities.
Overall, I would say the three organizations worked their tails off to get as much delivered timely as possible.

I dream of a 5 day delivery. I had a 2-3 day priority package take 18 days to get to Ohio from NJ. Posted on the 1st of December and arrived at the post office on the 18th, I was there complaining when it arrived. If left to them it would have probably been another day or two before it was actually delivered. So 5 days is a luxury!!!
