Hello people, I'm new to the art of photo shopping and I have PSE 9, along with light room 3.5. Only thing is I have no idea on how to use these programs. Is there any one book that will give me some step by step illustrated instructions as how to use this program?

It is not a book but I understand there are some video tutorials on youtube. Take a look around there and see what you can find.

Yup, Eric, is correct. A good place to start is YouTube. I know they have videos on some complicated steps so I imagine they also have ones for beginning steps as well. Anyway, you can't beat the price.

I found an oversized magazine/book at Costco last week that is called 'Photoshop Elements Made Easy' that is FULL of information, tutorials and before and after photos. Even has information on RAW and comes with a free DVD with over 10 hours of expert video lessons.
Not sure if Adobe wrote a 'Classroom in a Book' for Elements or not but if you go to the Adobe web site there is lots of information there, as well.
Good luck and have fun learning. Since I was very fluent in Photoshop CS3 and 4, the switch over to Elements is not as difficult once you learn to master the tools and overall layout of the program.

Google Adobe PS Elements Free Tutorials. Also check out the Adobe magazine Adobe Photoshop Elements Techniques. Each issue offers an explanation of how to use the most popular tools. There is an annual subscription but I believe the first 2 issues may be offerd online for free. Good Luck and enjoy.

I feel your pain . I got the same program almost a year ago and have desperately looked for tutorials. My husband bought me the subscription to the Elements magazine and it came with 3 back issues and DVD tutorials. I have just begun going through them and this is the best help I've seen yet. It was worth the $59 yearly subscription. Good luck!

If you are an absolute beginner (i.e. no Photoshop experience at all) it is best to focus on learning the basics first. Most importantly will be getting familiar with the workspace and tool bar and the concept of layers. As you go along to learn the basics you'll want to use over and over again on your photos, you will learn more about the capabilities, tricks and techniques of each tool. Like the others have said, you can google or look specific 'how to's up on YouTube - like How to crop an image in Photoshop Elements......How to adjust levels and enhance color.....how to sharpen....etc etc. It's a matter of practice practice practice and it takes some time.
Photoshop Elements is a great place to start but there still is a big learning curve as in the Photoshop CS software. Lots of good information and videos are available online so just dive in and give it a go. You'll get better and better as you go along.

You Tube is a great way to find out how to use PSE. I learn just by "hit & miss" in the program itself. Also try the help in elements, they have video tutorials there also. If you have more questions let me know I will try to help.

I left Adobe Photoshop CS when it started costing $200 a year for the upgrades. Switched to Elements and have been thru 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. All had good features. For E-9 I bought PE9 Simplified tips and tricks from Amazon. It is a visual learning book - wonderful!! I also have PE9 for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby and Matt K.

The best way I have found to learn any Photo software is to copy a photo, load into your photo software, and start playing with it. Click a procedure, and see what that does to the photo. Not good, click on undo, try again, and so on. If you screw the picture up, delete it, and load another copy of it. Just make sure you use a copy, and not the original. You'll remember it must better than just reading a book. Don't get me wrong, books help, but actually doing it is a better teacher
