Warnemünde, Germany – the Lutheran Church

In 2008 I took a cruise of the Baltic Sea that visited a number of ports. One of those was the city of Warnemünde, Germany. While there I walked through the city and encountered the old Lutheran Church there. This brick neo-Gothic building has stood in the town center since 1866. Being located in a seaport, there is a naval presence in the church, including a couple of hanging ship models. The carved wooden Altar dates from around 1475, as does the wooden statue of Saint Christopher carrying the infant Christ on his shoulder. There is also a fine organ, built in 1975 by the Voigt company and contains 1587 pipes; I was privileged to hear a short concert during my visit. Also on display is the works of an old tower clock from the former church building—it is more than 300 years old.
